The thing with video games is, either you're into them or you're not. And if you'd count yourself as belonging to the former category, you're in all likelihood, REALLY into them. Like staying up for 3 days straight with a controller in your hand as emotional support level of into it. And when the category of battle royale video games comes into the picture, the obsession is on a whole another tangent altogether.

Intense, nerve-wracking, adrenaline-inducing or just simply frenzied, you can take your pick from an assortment of adjectives, to sum up, the experience of participating in a battle royale game. If you aren't yet familiar with the concept, a battle royale game is essentially a large-scale multiplayer game, that usually has a huge population of players participating with only one objective in mind, to be the last man standing. It tests your scavenging, exploring, quick-feet thinking and ultimately, survival skills. Battle royale games like COD and Apex Legends started peaking in popularity around the mid-2010s, and the fanbase just continues to grow and expand, every single year.

So in case, you haven't already given into the magnetic appeal of a challenging battle royale video game, we have enlisted the 5 most popular and best battle royale video games for PC, android and iOS, that were quick to go viral.

1. Fortnite

Even if you haven't played the game so far, it's unlikely that the name won't ring a bell considering the bulk of Fortnite based memes social media has been flooded with. The gameplay is fast-paced, and the agenda is to compete against 100 other players on a large open-world environment, fighting other characters, either fellow players or ones controlled by the game, and emerge as the sole survivor.

2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Arguably one of the most popular and well-known video games in history, Call of Duty is on a league of its own. In 2019's Modern Warfare, you control CIA operatives and British SAS forces as they work hand in hand with rebels fighting for the country of Urzikstan and its independence from Russia.

3. PubG

PubG is a thrilling Battle Royale game, praised for its high-octane action and criticised by some for its intense degree of violence. While playing PlayerUnkown's Battlegrounds (yep, that's the full form) you're competing again 99 solo players, 98 players in duo mode and 96 additional players in squad mode. The agenda is simple, kill and avoid getting killed.

4. Apex Legends

A Battle Royal shooter game, it features a band of "legends" with different abilities and skills. The gameplay only lets you play in a squad of three players, but the game's most interesting feature is that you can "respawn" your dead teammates. All the legends have equivalent strength, speed and firepower, but the specific abilities can be mixed and matched to complement your fellow squadmates.

5. Cuisine Royale

A bit different from your usual Battle Royale games, Cuisine Royale is more about fun and less about thought. From lighting a cigar to give yourself some health, while also being careful about signalling your enemies with the smoke, to using a bullet-deflecting frying pan, this game puts a hilarious and might I add, clever spin on the foundation concept on Battle Royale games.
