Although we generally action, thriller, and sci-fi movies that keep us on the edge of our seats, many of us also secretly love romantic comedies (rom-coms). These movies can be a refreshing change of pace from the usual fare, and they can provide a much-needed dose of feel-good entertainment. They can also remind us of the first time we fell in love and make us believe in happy endings. And of course, no Bollywood fan can resist a good romcom!

 

1. Hum Tum (2004)

Hum Tum is a romantic comedy film about two people who are complete opposites and can't stand each other. Over the course of 7 years, they fall hopelessly in love. Saif Ali Khan's comic timing and Rani Mukerji's brilliant performance make it one of the best Bollywood romcoms ever.

2. Jab We Met (2007)

A heartbroken man and a free-spirited woman meet on a train and embark on a journey that changes their lives. This film, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, is one of the most popular and critically acclaimed romantic comedies in Bollywood. It is considered to be a masterpiece by director Imtiaz Ali, and is credited with redefining the genre of romance in Hindi cinema.

3. Dostana (2008)

Two men pretend to be gay in order to live with the attractive and single Priyanka Chopra. The film is full of crazy antics, but it also has some heartwarming moments of romance and comedy. Despite the fact that the film relies on harmful stereotypes about gay people, it does have its own unique charm.

4. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008)

The film, which told the story of a sweet but boring man who tried to be someone else to win his wife's love, surprised everyone with the great chemistry between the superstar Shah Rukh Khan and the much younger newcomer Anushka Sharma.

5. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)

This movie is a classic Bollywood romantic comedy about an 8-year-old girl who tries to get her widowed father back together with his college sweetheart. The film features the iconic on-screen pairing of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, as well as the comedic talents of Johnny Lever and Farida Jalal. It is considered to be one of the most beloved Bollywood films of all time.

6. Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008)

This movie is a great depiction of young love, telling the story of two best friends who are in denial about their feelings for each other. The film stars Genelia D'Souza as the outgoing and carefree friend, and Imran Khan as the shy and introverted one. The film's unconventional plot and relatable characters made it a trendsetter in the Indian film industry.

7. Band Baaja Baaraat (2010)

Two friends who are also business partners (read binness partners) in a wedding planning company become successful, but their relationship is tested when they fall in love. The film is a realistic depiction of Delhiites and their culture, and one of its most famous lines is "bread pakora ki kasam!", which means "I swear on bread pakoras!".

8. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)

“Kya tum mantally sick ho my bwoy?” The film tells the story of three friends who go on a trip to Spain before one of them gets married. The trip helps them to reconnect with each other and to fall in love with life again. The audience found the film to be relatable and engaging because it captures the essence of friendship and the importance of living in the moment.
