Among the buttload of things you can do with your parents, bonding over a delightful film that has something for everyone will always have my heart.
I mean, it's better to shed a tear or so over an emotionally moving character than get in an argument with your father on politics. And it's always a good idea to nag a villain in a movie with your mom than getting nagged for being a lazy soul you are...*Flashbacks*...
Back from the troubling flashbacks already?

This Hindi film is known for its talented star cast and light-hearted comedy. Based on Upendranath Ganguly's Bengali story; Chhadobeshi, the movie was a blockbuster hit then and even now. Studded with stars like Dharmendra, Amitabh Bacchan, Om Prakash, Jaya Bacchan, Sharmila Tagore, Asrani, the story revolves around a harmless lie told to Raghavendra (played by Om Prakash) by Prof. Parimal Tripathi (played by Dharmendra) about his identity. It's better you enjoy the rest of the movie with your family but be prepared for laughter, fun and a good time.

Based on a real-life Indian athlete, a National champion runner and an Olympian, Milkha Singh (played by Farhan Akhtar); this popular Bollywood movie is a well-directed biopic that hit the box office hard and 7 years later, its still an inspiring watch. Set in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, when Milkha's motivating coach cries "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag!", just like that Milkha is taken back to 1947, where his unfortunate childhood is echoing with these exact words. Cut to the present, he drops to the fourth position but there's a story full of hard work, passion, motivation, chances and hidden demons behind it. Also, if you live with your grandparents you better be ready because there are more stories of Indian Partition coming your way.

If you are unable to separate the movie from the all-time favourite song Maa in Shankar Mahadevan voice, it's okay, you are not alone. The film basically explores the life of an 8-year-old dyslexic boy, Ishaan Awasthi (played by Darsheel Safary) who along with his family is unaware of his problem. Troubled by this, Ishan's father sends him off to a boarding school where he is noticed by an art teacher, Ram Shankar Nikumb (played by Aamir Khan) and the little boy gets a new life. How? When? You need to watch this movie to find out. The movie is filled with feel-good factors and various other emotions wrapped around an inspiring story.

The Lunch Box is one of Late. Irrfan Khan's most memorable movies that literally restored my faith in the Hindi film industry and brilliant story writing. Alongside are two remarkable actors Nimrat Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui who made this film what it is today; more special. The movie is an epistolary romance between two unknown souls living in Mumbai and guess what is the medium of their accidental encounter? A lunch box or a rather lousy "dabbawala" service. The story is enough topic for a family to bond over. I highly recommend this one.

The power duo of the '70s and real-life, Late. Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh made their second debut with this one and they did a mind-blowing job with their characters. The film is a very close-to-reality middle-class home scenario where the school teacher (Lt. Rishi Kapoor) is trying left and right for a better lifestyle, a car and more for the happiness of his wife and the kids. But what's a good movie without obstacles and twist? This one has it all. And don't be surprised if you spot a few resemblances with your own family.

More than a decade old, this movie is still as relevant as politics in India and also very close to my heart. When a bunch of ignorant college students take it upon themselves to bring a change the entire country has been fussing about over the years, a spark ignites and before you know it, the message spreads like wildfire. But how does this transformation happen? Well, you need to watch it to know it. This is a piece of art everyone should watch at least once. With family, friends, neighbours basically anyone who has not seen it yet. You'll thank me later!

A beautiful and true story of an NRI Mohan Bhargava (played by Shah Rukh Khan) working as a Project Manager on the GPM Programme with NASA in the US returns to his homeland to the nanny who raised him as a boy. This few days vacation turns into something bigger than himself. He not only falls in love with the people around him but also rediscovers the magic of his own soil, his own country. There are melodious songs you'll never forget, there are emotions, there's a sense of belonging and there is also some science but the result is happy tears.
