The world of fashion is unpredictable, and that's putting it extremely mildly. The latest trends change by the minute, and fashionistas gravitate towards a new style, before you even get the time to register the previous one. That being said, some trends tend to stick around a bit longer than the others, and some eventually graduate to the status of a fashion classic. Now, while it isn't easy to classify the contents of a woman's wardrobe by any means, every girl has a collection of these timeless basics. Staple items that one can reliably throw on during moments of extreme confusion over outfit choices. Sort of like a fashion safety net.

But we are here to tell you about the ones, you need to STOP including in that list. Like most bad habits, there are certain pieces that we've worn for so long, it's hard to let go. These clothes have long surpassed their peak moments of popularity, yet continue to occupy space in our closets in the form of fashion artefacts. The graves of trends from the past. These are clothes we've seen way too much of, and for far too long, and on way too many people. These are clothes, that have reached the age of retirement.

So, with all due respect and without any intention of offence, here's a list of 10 fashion things you need to part ways with already.

1. Skinny Jeans

Ah, the good old days of skin-tight denim and lost blood circulation in the legs. Old, being the operative word here. After years of slithering into pairs of skinny jeans, the fashion gods took a turn for the better, and comfier. So, why do some of us willfully choose to be in pain and continue to reach for the skinny jeans in our closet, despite them having gone out of style? The reign of skinny jeans might have lasted a while there, but now it's all about the straighter, more tapered cuts with relaxed silhouettes. Think mom jeans, boyfriend jeans, distant aunt jeans even. But let the skinny ones go.

2. Cropped Sweatshirts

What even were these? Forget fashion for a minute, this trend doesn't even make logical sense. I mean, you're either cold or you're not, what's with the mixed signals? Don't look so offended, a reasonably cropped sweatshirt is cute, sure, even more so when you pair it with high-waisted bottoms. But we are talking about the sweatshirts that are clearly too short to even fall under the category. Fashion tip - don't buy something that only looks good in Instagram photos, from certain angles.

3. Harem Pants

Pardon me if this hurts, but UGH. I mean, it could be just me, but I never really understood these drop-crotch, parachute-looking pants. Especially if they come with those vertical, "hippie" prints, so to speak. There's no denying how comfortable they are to wear at home, so go ahead and lounge around in a pair. At home. Alone. When nobody sees you.

4. Peplum Dresses

When peplum dresses first started trending, they were somewhat revolutionary. We could wear a fitted dress, without also having to suck in our breath to the point of asphyxiation. But at this point in 2021, they've become SO overdone. All of us have something peplum in our wardrobes, and all of us need to replace them with trendier cuts that are fashionably relevant in the new decade.

5. Cold Shoulder Tops

Speaking of overdone, how many of these tops do you own by now? If you shy away from wearing sleeveless stuff the way I do, you probably were a cold-shoulder trend fan at one point. But it's time to say goodbye, especially because we are so tired of seeing them everywhere on everybody. Undoubtedly one of those trends that were all the rage just a couple of years back, cold-shouldered tops have now, officially faded from the style spotlight.

6. Platform Flip Flops

Just one word. Why? There was maybe one point roughly around 2011 when platform flip flops were uber-cool. But if you're wearing them still, you're about 10 years too late to the party. Don't get me wrong, I love flip-flops, and I firmly believe every girl needs a reliable pair especially for the summer season. But what is the point of attaching wedges to them? So disrespectful.

7. Jeggings

Okay, ladies, say it with me. We can do better than jeggings. Initially, when jeggings first started making the rounds, the appeal was undeniable. Leggings? With jeans? You mean I wear both at the same time? Wow! But in 2021, just no. I don't want to be harsh, but let's get real here. Those fake pockets, tacky gold ziplines and that pseudo denim material can be spotted from a mile away. And when I do, I'm gonna start walking in the opposite direction.

8. Uggs

Okay, I'm gonna be straightforward here. Do I own a few pairs of Uggs? Yes. Have I worn them during winters? Yes. Am I proud of these facts? No.

9. Chokers

You know exactly which ones I'm talking about, don't you? Those black chain chokers had, like, one minute of fashion fame back in 2016. But thankfully, we were quick to come to our senses. It's just one of those trends that we spot, and our eyes instantly rollback. Kind of like an allergic reaction. That's not to say all kinds of chokers are overdone, for instance, minimalistic gold choker necklaces will always be lovely. But throw that stretchy black choker in the trash, please.

10. Capri Pants

I'm sorry, did I interrupt your time travel? Seriously, capri pants stopped being a thing, a LONG while ago. So why are some of us still so attached? In 2021?! Oh, the horrors.
