Gandhi, My Father is a 2007 film that won 3 national awards and is based on Harilal Gandhi's (Mahatma Gandhi's son) biography. The movie centrally explores the distraught relationship between Gandhi and his son Harilal. And between being a father to his beautiful sons and father of the nation; a gap is created and then fulfilled by the end of this film.

3. Hey Ram

A 20-year-old historical drama by Kamal Hassan is a story during the time of partition. This film revolves around Saketh Ram, a Hindu archaeologist who turns into a Hindu extremist soon after his wife is raped and murdered by a Muslim group. He then blames everything on Gandhi's decision to partition India, thus conspiring to kill him. But there are things he'll soon realise during the movie which will help us clear every doubt we had in mind about the decision.

4. Lage Raho Munna Bhai

A comedy-drama by Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra, this Gandhi film is a perfect rendition of Gandhian principles filmed to simplify his teachings for our generations. Lage Raho Munna Bhai is based on Murli Prasad a gangster who after series of events ends up in a library stacked with true stories and beliefs of Mahatma Gandhi. He is then introduced to a new level of consciousness wherein he felt Gandhi's presence at all times. He used Gandhigiri to solve all the problems brought to him by people through the radio. The film is quite funny, moving and filled with Mahatama's essence. A must-watch if you still haven't.

5. The Making Of The Mahatma
A joint Indian-South African production, The Making of The Mahatma is a film based on the book "The Apprenticeship Of A Mahatma" by Fatima Meer. It talks about the early years of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi during his 21 years in South Africa where he fought against social evils like racial discrimination and came to be known as Mahatma.
