"There's more to reality than meets the eye"... and there's definitely more in the movies than our minds can comprehend. Over the years, I've been hooked to a myriad of movie franchises, TV series, sitcoms and whatnot. But every time a new one hits the theatres, I am filled with astonishment. Each passing year proffers a handful of masterpieces and cinematic wonder on the big screen that not only leaves everyone awestruck and amazed but makes way for a better tomorrow. And while all of us shrug on the possibility of that even happening, a new script is already being dramatized and released at our disposal.

That's the magic of cinema! And as much as we love and cherish the treasured classics from the days gone by, an upcoming one is welcomed with similar anticipation and warmth. (Well, not every time but it's always nice when it happens.)

Now, the previous year was like being in a long dragged dystopian movie we didn't really audition for. While the things seemed bleak for a long time, the beginning of the new year has provided us with immense hope. And one of them is the ability to mosey down to our nearest theatres and experience the most awaited movies of 2021 on the big screen like good ol' times.

TBH, there are a lot of super-cool movies coming up in the year 2021 and I can't wait any longer to catch you up on the latest buzz. So, here we go!

The most popular and the greatest animated duo from our childhood is back. Everything has changed. The city, their lives, the addresses. However, the chase still continues. Starring in a live-action comedy film, the famous cat and mouse are still making each other's life miserable and fun while the hotel they currently hold residence in is hosting a big fat wedding. The staff wishes to get rid of the rodent (Jerry) and the natural predator (Tom) is helping them. Join the fun and follow the chaos because this is going to be a helluva ride to nostalgia-Ville!

Genre: Animated, Comedy

Director: Tim Story

Star Cast:  Chloë Grace Moretz, Michael Peña, Colin Jost, Rob Delaney, and Ken Jeong in live-action roles. While Hanna, Mel Blanc and June Foray, Frank Welker gave voices for titular characters.

With an almost-entirely Asian American cast, Disney is ready to amaze the viewers with an animated action-adventure fantasy about magic, trust and of course... dragons. The story revolves around Raya who along with her pet pill big companion has been on a journey to save her land from the monsters who have returned after 500 years. From the look of it, the film seems quite wholesome and jam-packed with drama, adventure and mind-blowing animation. I personally have high hopes from this film, mostly due to Moana.

Genre: Animated, Action, Fantasy

Director: Don Hall, Carlos López Estrada

Star Cast: Kelly Marie Tran (Raya), Awkwafina as (Sisu, the last dragon), Gemma Chan, Daniel Dae Kim, Sandra Oh, Benedict Wong, Izaac Wang, Thalia Tran and Alan Tudyk.

3. Godzilla v/s Kong

This Scifi action thriller is a crossover we didn't know we needed. Two of the biggest (Literally) species on the face of the planet are in a duel while the entire world gasps and pray for their lives. The movie starts with Godzilla hurting people while nobody understands why until it meets Kong. The entire plot and ancient history unfurl as the film moves forward. It's the 4th film of the legendary MonsterVerse and a cinematic wonder gnarly enough to keep you on the edge. The trailer is pretty impressive, the music is high-powered and the cast is quite wholesome. But who'd be the last one standing is the real question. I can't wait to find out.

Genre: Action, Thriller, Scifi

Director: Adam Wingard

Star Cast:  Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, Eiza González, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler, and Demián Bichir.

A fantasy action based on a video game franchise of the same name is hitting the theatres soon and it's going to take our breath away. The forces of the Outworld has attacked the Earthrealm for a tournament of a lifetime... to end the game once and for all. It is upon a washed-up martial art fighter - Cole Young who is unaware of his hidden lineage and being hunted down by the enemy. A Mortal Kombat with a killer plotline indeed.

Genre: Action, Scifi, Thriller, Fantasy

Director: Simon McQuoid

Star Cast:  Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Chin Han, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada.

5. Black Widow

Black Widow has been a pivotal part of all the major Avengers series. With each film barely touching her past story, Natasha has always been a mystery we'd love to solve. And I'm glad we can. With Black Widow hitting the theatres soon we can get the answers to every question we had about the character. Like us, she's tired of running from her past as well. Set after Captain America: Civil War (2016) it's time for her to go back and look every secret, danger, mistake and enemy in the eye to save others like her. But don't worry, she's not alone. Black Widow is accompanied by her own blood on the quest and it's one of the family reunions I can't wait to witness.

Genre: Action, Superhero, Adventure, Scifi

Director: Cate Shortland

Star Cast: Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow), Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, William Hurt, Ray Winstone, and Rachel Weisz.

6. Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

Release Date: 4th June 2021

It's the 8th horror in the Conjuring universe and spine-chilling story of terror, murder and an unknown evil spirit. Conjuring 3 is a brand new tale of Arne Johnson and a murder trial held in 1981 in Connecticut. The film portrays another sensational case of the conjures and a demented incident of demonic possession based on a true story. It's scary, it's out-hearted and super-natural. Also, I don't recommend you going alone to watch this on the big screen if horror films give you the nightmares.

Genre: Horror, Thriller, Mystery

Director: Michael Chaves

Star Cast:  Patrick Wilson (Ed Warren), Vera Farmiga (Lorraine Warren), Ruairi O'Connor, Sarah Catherine Hook, and Julian Hilliard.

7. Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Release Date: 25th June 2021

One of the most anticipated Marvel movies of 2021, Venom II is a superhero film based on a Marvel comic character venom. Sequel to the earlier one, this specific part introduces a new villain - Carnage to the viewers. And if that thrill wasn't enough, the role of Carnage is being played by Woody Harrelson. I also spotted Tom Holland as Spider-Man in the trailer who's significance is still a mystery. However, it's not a coincidence and my movie-gut tells me that this part will be a huge insight into the upcoming Spider-Man movie later in the year. Venom will b a great watch and even better if you're a fan of the marvel universe. Also, be prepared for nail-bitting action, kick-ass graphics and an intense but awesome movie experience.

Genre: Superhero, Thriller, Action

Director: Andy Serkis

Star Cast:  Tom Hardy, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Williams, Reid Scott, and Naomie Harris.

8. Jungle Cruise

Release Date: 30th July 2021

There's a tree of life deep into the Amazon forest, a tree with healing powers and that could be a gift for medicine. Join Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blent rowing deep and I mean super deep into the forest to help the mankind. But then again, how can you call a movie adventurous when there are no bad guys, right? So, it's an extremely plain plot with a roller-coaster of action, drama and punchlines we love Disney for. Sidebar: I saw an antagonist character in the trailer that looked a lot like Davy Jones from The Pirates Of The Caribbean Sea. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens in the movie!

Genre: Adventure, Fantasy

Director: Jaume Collet-Serra

Star Cast:  Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Édgar Ramírez, Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti.

9. Morbius

Release Date: 8th October 2021

Another superhero film based on the marvel comics is the story of a Michael Morbius, a man suffering from a rare blood disease who tries a dangerous cure that afflicts him with a form of vampirism. It's the making of yet another super-villain from the treasury of comics by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane. TBH, the first look is quite impressive, I was taken aback with the use of Beethoven's music as the primary mood for the film but it's still hard to say how well the fans will perceive it. Jared Leto is in the lead so I'd like to think it could end up becoming one of the greatest movies of the year 2021.

Genre: Superhero, Scifi

Director: Daniel Espinosa

Star Cast: Jared Leto, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson.

10. Minions II: The Rise Of Gru

Release Date: TBA for India

Watch the official trailer here!

Most beloved army of animated characters are back and now they're helping the 12-year-old Gru (from Despicable Me series) on his journey to become the world's biggest, most feared supervillain. From the looks of it, the film feels like a sequel to the first Minions movie that came out in 2015 and a prequel to the Despicable Me series released earlier this decade. However, I am super excited to join these guys on their adventure and probably looking forward to laughing my butts off on scenes like Nuns attacking with Nunchucks (Get it?). I am laughing already. And I saw it in the trailer, so funny!

Genre: Animation, Comedy

Director: Kyle Balda

Star Cast: Voices given by Pierre Coffin, Steve Carell, Taraji P. Henson, Michelle Yeoh, RZA, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Lucy Lawless, Dolph Lundgren, Danny Trejo, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews, and Alan Arkin.

Watch out for these best upcoming movies of the year 2021.
