I have a confession to make, a secret to share. Okay, here goes nothing....I don't like sweets. I know I know, I've been yelled at by far too many people for this disclosure, but seriously, I can't help it. My mouth doesn't typically salivate at the thought of sugary treats, and I'd pick savoury flavours over desserts on most occasions. But every single year, as the winter draws closer, a shift takes place in my cravings. I go from wanting to devour a pizza in a single bite, to desperately longing for the taste of freshly baked doughnuts. And chocolate croissants. And apple pies, and blueberry cheesecakes, and so on and so forth.
How the cold weather manages to cast this sudden sweet spell on my appetite, I may never really understand. But I'm solution-oriented, so I focus on fixes, not more questions. All I know is, as we speak, my tummy continues to grumble in anticipation of warm winter desserts. And fortunately when this happens, I'm usually huddled in a corner of Delhi. As several other residents and visitors of the capital city would proclaim, there ain't no craving left unsatisfied, if you look for ways to satiate them in Saddi Dilli!

If that sounds similar to your winter sentiments, I found an awesome place for both of us! Danbro, an artisanal Italian boulangerie and patisserie opened its doors to the folks of Delhi earlier this year, but it's only recently that I finally stepped out to check out for myself what the hype is about. And let me tell you, I don't think I've been happy about discovering anything in 2020, as much as I was when I found myself in this authentic bakery from Milan.

I'd heard a lot of good reviews before heading to the place, and the promises of authentic Italian breads and sweets were enough for me to leave the house. Originally from the streets of Milan, Danbro Bakery has opened up a series of outlets in India and has been serving fresh, tasty offerings straight from the oven for about a year now. From sugary delights to around 40 types of glorious breads, and from cakes that melt in your mouth to filling meals and beverages, the menu here is every bit as impressive as it is expansive.
I visited Danbro Bakery on a nippy Sunday morning for brunch with my friends. Honestly, just the aesthetics and decor of this gem in GK were enough to convince us that we arrived at the right place. The place looked both elegant and soul-soothing, with its gorgeous mix of black, brown, copper and gold hues. Once seated, we ordered their Mezze Platter, Fully Loaded Pizza and Stuffed Mushroom Caps, coupled with Cream Cheese English Muffins and Loaded Potato Skin to munch on alongside. For dessert, we decided to take a gander at the Tiramisu and Banoffee Waffle, along with some Caramel Macchiato to wash it all down with. I'm not much of a food reviewer, but without any exaggeration, it was some of the best brunch food I'd had in the city. The breads were soft, doughy and extremely delicious. Both the desserts were an explosion of perfectly balanced and rounded sweet flavours in the mouth. All in all, the culinary experience was one I'm going to rave about for a considerable while!
So folks, if you're looking for a way to satiate your winter induced overactive sweet tooth in Delhi, Danbro Bakery is a spot you should make a beeline for! And if not, you can just head over for some piping hot snacks and a steaming cup of coffee. Besides, the bakery makes for a gorgeous photography site *wink wink* think about your next social media post *wink wink*!
