All of us are constantly searching for good places to eat and hangout. But when we finally hit the jackpot, reality slaps us in the face.
No more! We at magicpin have compiled a list of five hidden gems that’ll turn your pursuit of heavenly grub into a once-in-a-lifetime experience. All this while being easy on your pocket! REJOICE!
Café Hera Pheri
This new and upcoming café in Satyaniketan is inspired by the popular Bollywood movie of the same name. The bright, colorful interiors are a feast for the eyes! The music is light and set at a volume which allows you to have conversations without screaming into each other’s faces.
The chilli chicken is an unbelievably tasty masterpiece. Couple it with a refreshing key lime splash, and get ready to achieve nirvana. It almost feels like you’ve been reunited with a part of your soul that was missing all this while. Too dramatic? We don’t think so.
Every food lover in the Delhi/NCR region is missing out if they haven’t been here already. What’re you waiting for!
Cost for two: Rs. 500
Cuisines: Mexican, Italian, Continental
Address: 2, Opposite Sri Venkateshwara College, Satyaniketan, New Delhi
Blue Tokai Coffee Roasters
This quaint little café is tucked away in a corner on Said Ul Ajab, Saket. Like all great treasures, this hidden gem is a little hard to find (Google Maps will come in handy). As you enter the café, you’re greeted by the strong aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans. This alone is enough to make you fall in love with the place.
A wide variety of coffees are served, but the ones that standout are the sea salt chocolate mocha and the white flat coffee. You can choose from a selection of interesting sides to go with your coffee as well. The Onion Jam, Green Apple, Arugula + Scarmoza sandwich (Yes, that’s one item) is a feast for the taste buds.
The quiet ambience and delicious coffees make it an ideal place to read a book and unwind.
Cost for two: Rs. 350
Cuisines: Coffee, sandwiches
Address: Khasra 258, Lane 3, Westend Marg, Saidulajab, Saket, New Delhi
Spice Aangan
Located in the popular SDA market, Spice Aangan is a small joint with only a couple of tables. But as they say, good things come in small packages.
Their chicken and paneer shawarmas are to die for! Succulent, juicy, and full of flavor, the shawarma melts as soon as it enters your mouth. The creamy mayo and pudina chutney served along with it enhances the taste even further. The biryani is worth a try as well.
Whether you’re into shawarmas or biryani, one thing is for certain: You’ll leave Spice Aangan with a full tummy and a satisfied pallet.
Cost for two: Rs. 450
Cuisines: North Indian, Mughlai
Address: C-21/2, Opposite IIT Main Gate, SDA Market, SDA, New Delhi
Shim Tur
This serene rooftop café is ironically located in a maze-like, chaotic bylane in Paharganj. It’s a hard place to find, even with Google maps. You have to get off at R.K. Ashram Marg metro station and ask for hotel Navrang. But trust us, the effort is worth the experience.
Once you enter the café, you know you’re going to have a good time. The minimalistic decor compliments the relaxed, laid back atmosphere. It’s a place where you can have conversations for hours on end, while savoring some of the best authentic Korean food in Delhi. Do try the Kimchi salads, Seaweed soup, and the Kim Bop (Korean version of Sushi).
Cost for two: Rs. 600
Cuisines: Korean
Address: 3F, Navrang Guest House, Tooti Galli, Main Bazaar, Paharganj, New Delhi
Carnatic Café
Located in New Friends Colony, this Dosa paradise is a must for lovers of South Indian food. Be it the crispy Masoor dosa or the scrumptious Malleshwaram 18th cross, you just can’t get enough. But if you CAN get enough, order a glass of chilled masala buttermilk to make the experience truly divine!
There are plenty of options for those with a sweet tooth as well. Obbattu, a sweet, crispy crepe, results in an explosion of flavours with every bite. No words can do justice to this culinary extraordinaire.
Cost for two: Rs. 550
Cuisines: South Indian
Address: Ground Floor, the India Mall, Community Center, New Friends Colony, New Delhi
